    What is Toyama Like?

Situated in the central northern part of Japan, Toyama Prefecture is surrounded by diverse landscapes. To the north lies Toyama Bay, to the east, the towering Tateyama Mountain Range, and to the west, a series of hills and mountain villages. In the south, expansive farmlands and forests stretch as far as the eye can see. Among these natural wonders, the Tateyama Mountain Range, with its peaks reaching over 3,000 meters, stands out, enchanting all who behold its beauty. Additionally, the approximately 20-meter-high walls of snow created during the opening of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in spring are a sight not to be missed.

    Toyama

Toyama Prefecture is located along the Sea of Japan, offering stunning views of the Sea of Japan and the majestic Tateyama Mountain Range.

Toyama prefecture is roughly divided into 5 areas. It is divided into the Toyama area, which is known for selling medicine in Toyama, the Takaoka/Himi area, which has many of Japan's three great Great Buddhas and storehouse buildings and is rich in scenic beaches and seafood, the Tateyama area, which is known for dynamic mountain tourism and the magnificent water discharge of Kurobe Dam on a grand scale, the Tonami/Gokayama area, which is famous for Gokayama lined with gassho-style private houses registered as a World Heritage Site, and Sanni-mura, which is dotted with houses surrounded by mansion forests, and the Kurobe/Unazuki area, where trolley trains run and you can enjoy the spectacular view of the gorge and Toyama's representative hot spring.

    Climate

Its climate is relatively mild throughout the year due to the influence of the Tsushima Warm Current, which flows northward along the Sea of Japan.

However, winters are characterized by heavy snowfall due to the winter monsoon, especially in the northern part of the Northern Alps, where the Tateyama mountain range is renowned as one of the world's snowiest areas.

Additionally, the coastal areas along the Sea of Japan are known for their rapidly changing weather, particularly during the winter months when cloudy skies are common.
